Poltrona Frau and Savio Firmino, two luxury furniture brands, announced that they are starting to implement Digital Product Passports (DPPs) in their furniture. DPPs are a digital record with information about the origin of the product, its material composition, production process, environmental impact, repair and end-of-life instructions. The information is typically accessed via a QR code or a digital carrier like an NFC chip (near field communication), or AI fingerprinting. Digital Product Passports are an intitiative of the European Commission and will become mandatory for textiles in July 2027. The good news is that it is much more than compliancy with EU regulations.
