Textiles are overwhelmingly present in our daily lives. From the curtains in your bedroom or the napkin in a fine‑dining restaurant to the blades of a wind turbine. Whoever learns to better know the wondrous world of textiles rediscovers beauty, technology and innovation. Textile flirts with the boundaries of science, design, economy and data — once love has caught you, it never lets you go.

In Textirama’s immersive installation we want to share that love with you. You would hardly abandon such a faithful companion, would you? Find us: we are in the heart of Begijnhofpark.

Wim Opbrouck, grandson of a flax farmer, testifies

Wim Opbrouck — from now on we may call him Wim — is undoubtedly one of the greatest fans of textiles and especially of table linen. He is the voice that carries you through the wondrous world of textiles, and he also recorded his testimony. In it, he tells how, as the grandson of a flax farmer, he came under the spell of textiles and why it has never let him go to this day.

We recorded 12 testimonies of people who each in their own way share their love for textiles with you. They are inventors, weavers, finishers, entrepreneurs — from small agile enterprises or internationally renowned market leaders. Take a moment and discover them. You are sure to become captivated.

Textile route at WONDER
From 16 October to 2 November the inner city of Kortrijk — named a UNESCO Creative City of Design — transforms into a vibrant incubator of promising ideas and creative energy.

The artistic direction is set by Dutch Instagram phenomenon Berry Dijkstra, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Belgium, bringing a unique perspective.

Practical information

WONDER is an inspiring and free route, spread over more than 20 unique locations in the center of Kortrijk. There you can discover exhibitions, installations and events which using creativity offer answers to the challenges of tomorrow. WONDER connects young talent, companies, artists and schools with the general public.

You can visit WONDER between Thursday 16 October and Sunday 2 November, always from Thursday through Sunday. During weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00, and on weekends and during the autumn break from 10:00 to 18:00. No reservation is required.
